BEGINNER'S YOGA SERIES: Week 1


Objective To provide new students with essential tools for their yoga practice and familiarize them with the virtual environment.

Activities

Mat Movement Familiarization
Students will learn how to navigate their mats comfortably, including how to adjust their positioning and use their space effectively.

Introduction to Props
Participants will explore household items they can use for support, such as blankets, cushions, or chairs, to enhance their practice.

Virtual Class Navigation
A step-by-step guide on how to participate in a virtual class, including tips on setting up their space and engaging with the instructor and fellow students.

Focus Pose
Downward Dog - Students will learn the fundamental alignment and benefits of this pose, focusing on creating length in the spine and strength in the arms and legs.

Considerations
An open discussion regarding any injuries or health concerns. The instructor will provide modifications to accommodate individual needs, ensuring everyone feels safe and supported.

BEGINNER'S YOGA SERIES: Week 2


Objective To develop stability and strength through foundational standing poses while reinforcing previously learned concepts.

Activities

Downward Dog Review
A thorough review of the Downward Dog, ensuring students can practice it safely and effectively.

Introduction to Standing Poses
Warrior I
Emphasis on grounding through the back foot and lifting through the arms while maintaining an open chest.

Warrior II
Students will explore their strength and focus by extending their arms and gazing over their front hand.

Triangle Pose
Instruction on maintaining alignment between the legs and upper body, highlighting the stretch and strength benefits.

Extended Side Angle
An exploration of how to deepen the pose while ensuring proper knee alignment and openness in the hips.

Focus
Special attention will be on maintaining safe knee and hip alignment in each pose, encouraging body awareness and alignment principles.

BEGINNER'S YOGA SERIES: Week 3


Objective
To educate students on spinal health through safe twists and backbends, promoting mobility while respecting individual limitations.

Activities

Introduction to Safe Twists
Instruction on how to perform gentle twists that encourage spinal rotation without compromise.

Back Extensions and Flexions
Focus on movements that open the front body and lengthen the spine while exploring how these can be integrated into their practice.


Continuing Practice
Students will revisit and hone the standing poses learned in Week 2 alongside Downward Dog.

Personal Note
The instructor shares her experience with spinal fusion, highlighting the role yoga has played in her life.

BEGINNER'S YOGA SERIES: Week 4



Objective
To enhance students’ balance through awareness of body mechanics and breath support.

Activities

Balance Exploration
Students will engage in exercises that illustrate how balance can shift throughout the day and how to respond to those changes with confidence. Muscle Activation Techniques: They will learn how to activate specific muscle groups to improve balance and stability.

Focus Poses

Tree Pose
A deep dive into grounding through one leg while finding strength and steadiness through the other.

Warrior III
Students will explore finding equilibrium while extending their arms forward and leaning their torso over the standing leg.

BEGINNER'S YOGA SERIES: Week 5


Objective
To create a flowing connection between movement and breath, cultivating a more mindful practice.

Activities

Linking Poses to Breath
Students will learn to synchronize their movements with their breath, fostering a meditative state during practice.

Daily Practice Routine
Introduction of a simple 20-minute morning yoga sequence designed for everyday use, empowering students to establish a consistent practice.

Breathwork Introduction
A brief lesson on various breath techniques to calm the mind and body, enhancing overall focus and relaxation.

Energy Release Analogy
Drawing parallels between yoga and the playfulness of recess, encouraging students to let go of excess energy and find stillness.

BEGINNER'S YOGA SERIES: Week 6


Objective
To integrate all learned poses and breathing techniques into a cohesive, flowing practice.

Activities

Integrated Practice Session
A guided 20-30 minute sequence that incorporates all previously learned poses while ensuring smooth transitions and awareness of breath.

Q&A Session
Addressing any lingering questions or concerns that have arisen throughout the course, providing individualized support.
